DCM – By Royal Appointment

The challenge this Friday at Daring Cardmakers is ‘By Royal Appointment’.  After a rummage through my stash I remembered I had a Drama Queen stamp and little crown.  Rather than go for a girlie colour scheme I decided to combine them with my little bunting stamp and go for a patriotic red, white and blue scheme.  It was a bit grey outside today, so unfortunately the photo doesn’t show the glamour dust I’ve added to the crown, but irl it’s quite sparkly.

DCM – Speaking Professionally

The challenge over at Daring Cardmakers this week is ‘speaking professionally’ – to make a card for a cook, a gardener or any profession you want.  Well this was a toughie, I went through all my stamps and thought that the best option I had was to go for gardener so I made the card below using the wellie’s and text from the Papertrey Green Thumb set.  Then once I’d made the card, I remembered I had this lovely digi stamp from Pink Petticoat of a sewing machine.  So I’ve got two cards to share for this weeks challenge.

I’ve been working in London this week, on Regent Street.  I took this picture of the lovely wedding bunting that they’ve put up for the Royal Wedding – isn’t it fabulous?  This photo was taken at 8.30am – I can tell you, by mid-morning you can barely move for people and popping out for a sandwich a lunchtime is definitely not a pleasant experience, especially if everyone is going the opposite way to me!

Promarker Storage

You may remember a few weeks ago that I was on a bit of a mission to find perfect storage for my growing collection of Promarkers.  I got some pencil pots from Muji that worked quite well, but weren’t quite deep enough.  So, I got my brother-in-law on the case!  His company make displays for shops, and they make quite a lot of make-up displays, so he was quite confident he could get something made for me that would be perfect.  I wanted something that would sit on my desk, so I wanted it to be the minimum depth so it wouldn’t take up any more room than was necessary.  I also wanted it to be clear plastic so that I would be be able to see the colours and easily select the colour I wanted.  (Details of how to buy one are at the end of this post).

He not only made it easy for me to see the colours, but he has designed the stand so that the holes for the colours exactly match the Promarker colour charts (which you can download and print from the Promarker website).  The stand has holes for the complete set of Promarkers.  He’s also left a handy blank space so you can print off a colour chart and stick it on allowing you to look at the colours and quickly grab the exact pen you want.  Isn’t it genius?!

Here’s a side view, so you can see just how narrow the unit is.  It has pre-drilled holes so you can wall mount it if you prefer, and if you choose to wall mount it, it will sit flush against the wall and the pens will be slightly more horizontal than they look here.

The measurements for the rack are: height 40cm, across 38cm and the depth (measured at the bottom, ie. the widest part) is 12cm.

Although the main aim in manufacturing the rack was just so I could have one myself, we’ve decided to place a minimum order with the manufacturer so I can sell some via my blog, at my classes and on ebay.  The first batch are being made at the moment, but won’t be ready for two weeks.  If there’s enough interest, then we’ll get more made.   The cost for the rack is £40, plus postage.   I haven’t worked out the postage yet, but I don’t think it will be horrendous as the unit is fairly light when it’s empty.  If you’d like to reserve one from the initial order, please email me at backdated@hotmail.com as these will be first-come-first-served.

Daring Cardmakers Challenge

The theme this week over at Daring Cardmakers is ‘draw a bird day’.  Luckily you are also allowed to use stamped or paper pieced birds, because I’ve got some new Papertrey stamps that I was itching to use!   This stamp is using the Bitty Bird set, and I got the matching dies too to save cutting out those little birdies, although I need a bit more practice stamping on them as it’s quite a skill!

Here’s a close up, where hopefully you can see the glamour dust on all the leaves, the flowers and the little bird wings.

I also made a card using my new Wonderfully Whimsical set, also from Papertrey.  I’ve also used a fabulous doily that was very kindly given to me by my friend Chris.  I’ve painted it with Jenni Bowlin paint in ‘Stick Candy’ so it co-ordinates perfectly with the tree and text. Isn’t it a gorgeous die?  I think I might have to treat myself to one next time I order stuff from Papertrey.  I can see that the little hill stamp from this set is going to get a lot of use, it will work so well with so many other images.

Glittered chipboard

Here are a couple more cards for my April classes, again using pastel painted, glittered chipboard circles for backgrounds.  I’ve just received some new Papertrey stamps (thanks Chris!), so couldn’t wait to play with this gorgeous Love Lives Here set and matching dies.  I think it works really well with the glittered background.

This card is also using a Papertrey set, but one I’ve had a while - Green Thumb.  The little flowers are stamped and embossed with white ep on vellum, then individually cut out an layered on top of the little watering can.

Chipboard Circles

Here are some of the cards we’ll be making in my April classes.  They’re all using chipboard circles painted with Ranger Acrylic paints in pastel colours then coated in white glitter.  Perfect for Spring, and you can’t beat the look of crunchy, sparkly, glittery backgrounds in ice-cream colours.

 

 

New Venue for Bromsgrove Cardmaking Class!

My classes in Bromsgrove have now moved to a new venue.  It’s been fabulous using the classroom at The Jinney Ring, but now the classes are pretty full each time, we were tripping over each other a little, so I’ve decided to move to a new, bigger room at The Holiday Inn, Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, so we’ve got more space to create!  It’s a lovely room, with natural daylight, and they also do very nice bar food for lunch :)
