DCM - Feeling Krafty

It’s Fran’s first dare over at the Daring Cardmakers this week and she’s set the theme ‘Feeling Krafty’

She’d like us to use 'natural' items on our projects, ie. wood, leaves, kraft card, balsa wood, cork, burlap, rope, natural twine etc. The choice is endless, you just need a bit of imagination! 
There is a catch though - you must use 3 natural items not just a bit of kraft card!

Here’s my entry and I’ve used – kraft card, real bird feathers (sent over from France by my lovely friend Pam), some string, a mother-of-pearl button and some corrugated cardboard.  Since we were going for natural items I thought I’d go with a natural theme too and stamped this lovely bird image from Crafty Individuals onto an old book page.  Pop over to the Daring Cardmakers blog to see what the rest of the design team have come up with.

Papertrey dies

I had a lovely evening with my friend Chris on Thursday.  I took my Big Shot over and we had a lovely supper and a mammoth die cutting session using each other's dies.  I’ve definitely got some more Papertrey dies on my wish list after that – I just love these little tiny tags dies, and the leaf die goes so well with little hand-made roses, so I think both those die sets will be on my next order.  Luckily thanks to Chris I’ve got a good supply cut out to use in the meantime! 

I used the tiny tags dies for some more baby cards, they work perfectly with little vintage buttons for super cute cards.

Daring Cardmakers – Inspired by Banksy

The challenge this Friday over at Daring Cardmakers is to create a card inspired by the street artist Banksy. As I really like Banksy I thought this would be an easy one, but then when I tried to think of what pieces would translate to a card then it became a bit tricky!  After flicking through a book of his work, this image made me think of the ‘Betsy’ stamp I have and I thought she’d work well to recreate this image.

 

I stamped her in black soot distress ink, then used a waterbrush to drag some of the colour to shade her.  The heart balloon is stamped in red brick distress ink, and I used the waterbrush to add a little red to the bows on her shoes.  The text stamp is a Papertrey one, and I stamped it in ‘London Fog’ Memento ink as I thought black would be a bit harsh and might detract from the little girl image.

Cute as cute can be…..

How gorgeous are these little baby booties!  I’m doing a selection of baby cards at the moment.  My little niece Georgie has got me thinking a bit, when she came to craft with me the other day she looked at all the drawers full of cards I have leftover from classes and said “Auntie Sharon, if you sold all these cards, you’d be a millionnaire”.  Bless her, if only :)  She said I really should sell some cards, which really is something I avoid.  Any of you that make cards know how long it takes, and that you could never charge enough for a card to compensate for the time.  I’ve done the odd charity craft fair before, and I’ve also sold cards through shops when I lived in Spain, but I’ve never wanted to put myself under any pressure to make tons of stuff, production line style in order to have enough stock. 

So, I’m having a bit of a sort out, and sending some of the class sample cards off to magazines (they often publish them in the readers gallery section – and when they do they usually send a little crafty gift as a thank you).  And I’m making up a selection of cards and bagging them up ready to sell.  Not sure where yet, I’m starting on baby cards because there are quite a few individual shops that sell nice baby things, so I may take a selection around to see if anyone is interested in stocking them – whatever I do with them though, will definitely be ‘small scale’.  There’s nothing more tedious than making hundreds of cards, all the same design, so I’m just going to make a few at a time then decide what to do.

Just love these glittery chipboard circles with the booties – I shall finish off making cards with these later.

I also bought some gorgeous crinkly handmade paper from Paperchase the other day – I thought it would be perfect for making flowers from, and I was right!  The paper in the background is the new design from Pink Petticoat – it’s a fabulous design isn’t it?

Snowflakes and Robins

More Christmas cards!   The cards above are made using little Christmas tree stamps I designed myself, along with a text stamp from a Crafty Individuals set.  The background is just some distress ink spritzed with water, then I stamped a few little stars.  The trees are coloured in with Promarkers and I’ve added glamour dust for a bit of sparkle.  Very simple, but quite effective I think.

It’s a good idea to think about what everyday stamp sets you have that can be adapted for Christmas.  This card is using the Papertrey Bitty Bird set, and I’ve added some stickles glitter baubles to the tree and coloured a red breast on the bird to make him into a little robin.  Instead of colouring in the grass I’ve added some DecoArt Snow writer so it looks like snow.

DCM - So Kawaii

It’s Leo’s first challenge this week over at the Daring Cardmakers and she’s set the theme ‘So Kawaii’  Kawaii is Japanese and means loveable hug-able and basically cute, think Hello Kitty and food with smiley faces. Most of the colours in kawaii are sugary, fun and bright.

I did a bit of a google search for a suitable digi-stamp and found some fabulous Star Wars images in a Kawaii style.  Some of my friends are massive Star War fans so I ended up making a few of these to cover all their birthdays:

Partridge in a pear tree

I’m still at it with the Christmas cards, here’s a couple more to share – all will be for my class at the Holiday Inn Bromsgrove on the 24 September.

These lovely digi stamps are from Pink Petticoat, and the ‘Partridge in a pear tree’ and little pears are from Paperartsy. 

It’s that time already….

Oh yes, the sun is shining (well actually it’s not today, but it was glorious yesterday when I made this card).  I always try to start my Christmas cards in August.  We’ll be doing Christmas stuff at my September class so I like to get my personal cards done and out of the way before that.  This is the first of many cards I’ll be making and then I’ll use my favourite for my own cards this year.  I really like this cute little reindeer digi stamp, although I’m not sure he’ll make it for my own cards – I’m not sure I fancy colouring in 120 reindeers!

My friend Julie recently had a little boy, so I made this card for her – another cute digi stamp.

My new apprentice

My lovely niece Georgie has been crafting with me today and she has made a fabulous card and book.  She has quickly picked up how to shade with promarkers and I love the card and book she’s made – I think I have serious competition – what do you think?
