DCM - Get Felty

It’s Nat’s turn to set the challenge this week over at the Daring Cardmakers and she’s challenging us to use some felt on our cards.  You can use felt to make your own handmade embellishments (even include some threading and beading if you're feeling energetic), use some pre-made felties, or even raid the accessories sale bins for something unique to add to your project!

And if you're still stuck for ideas, why not check out the felty ideas on Pinterest!  As always, my teamies on the Design Team have come up with some gorgeous cards so pop over and have a look at those – sure to give you some inspiration to join us!

Here’s my card.  After an initial panic that my felt was back at home in the Midlands, I found a bag of some lovely felt I’d forgotten about.  It’s quite thick as you can see from the second pic, but it made a really nice flower when cut with my Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die. 

 

Other things I’ve used on my card are: Pink Petticoat paper, tea-stained seam binding, Papertrey heart cut-out die, Papertrey thank you stamp, Nellie and nestie dies, a vintage button and some flat-back pearls.

Storage update

All the little glass jars I ordered for my new storage cupboard have arrived, and of course, I then needed to buy more flat back pearls as I had an idea to have them all stored in rainbow order and the jars needed to be quite full to get the effect.  So, my little £20 bargain cupboard has probably ended up costing about £70!!  Hmm not such a bargain really, but it does look beautiful, and I certainly won’t run out of pearls anytime soon :)

DCM - Sketch Challenge

This weeks challenge (after a bit of confusion) over at Daring Cardmakers is to use the sketch below to create a card.  

You can make any card you like - and you can shrink, twist, turn the sketch upside down if you want - just as long as the layout is all there for us to see.

Here's my card - I chose to keep fairly close to the original sketch.  The papers are Pink Petticoat papers that I tweaked a bit - I printed plain coloured sheets in 'stone' then overprinted the same sheet with rose pink and duck egg blue to give a more shabby look.  The flowers are my 'bloom builder die' from Papertrey, and the little tag is also papertrey.  I finished the flowers off with some vintage buttons and pink and white bakers twine.

New crafty storage for my embellishments

Andy and I went for a stroll around Muswell Hill and Alexandra Palace yesterday – it was glorious sunshine and walking down through the park was just such a treat.  We came across this lovely little shelf unit in one of the shops – it’s got 35 little compartments and I was pretty sure the little jars I store my flat-back pearls in would be the right size.  I was a bit unsure whether to buy it, as let’s face it, I do have quite a lot of craft stuff and storage already, but amazingly it was Andy that encouraged me and said I’d regret it if I didn’t get it (especially as it was reduced from £35 to £20).  As I had hoped, my little jars are the perfect size – although now I have to buy another 26 of them to fill each little space, and of course, then I’ll need to buy some more pearls in other colours……   Ha ha, Andy did predict that £20 was only going to be the start of it!  I’m so lucky to have a boyfriend so tolerant of my craft addiction!

More Christmas sparkle

More cards for my class next weekend.  More of my favourite things – crunchy glitter, snowflakes, reindeers, Pink Petticoat papers and lots of sparkle!

O’ Christmas Tree

I’m still at it with the Christmas cards.  These are all for my next class at the Holiday Inn in Bromsgrove on the 22 October.  I’ve got some gorgeous new things to play with – new Papertrey stamps, some gorgeous new papers and digi stamps from Pink Petticoat, plus all the stamps I bought recently at the Ally Pally show and from Bubbly Funk in Worcester last week.  I thought I’d be bored of Christmas stuff by now, but with all this new stash I’ve got so many ideas I can’t get them made up quickly enough!

This card is using some of the new Pink Petticoat paper.  The stamps are Papertrey and so is the die cut doily.  Quite a simple design but it works so well with a glittery chipboard circle to liven it up.

And finally, another card using my new angel stamp.  I just love this. You can’t tell from the photo, but I’ve added glamour dust to her wings and the heart and it’s really sparkly.  I’ve also added one of the Tiny Tags from Papertrey at the bottom – another of my current favourite things!

Here’s my card – I needed to make a birthday card for a male friend, and I always think birds are a good option for boy cards – not too girly but a bit more interesting than golf or football!

Hark the Herald Angels ……..

I bought some fab new stamps this weekend when we went for a day out in Worcester on Saturday.  Amazingly, I not only managed to drag Andy into a craft shop, he was actually patient enough to let me have a look round and buy some new stamps and some lovely Jenni Bowlin paint.   I bought two sets of Christmas stamps made by Little Musings.  I don’t normally like this sort of image – I don’t get the Magnolia style ‘bum’ face thing – I have an urge to add in a nose and mouth with a black pen!  I saw some of these angel images in a magazine recently, and I just really like the style of them despite the lack of facial features :)

Calendula and Cosmos

Here’s my card – I decided to dig out my stampbord as I haven’t used it for a while and I think this Crafty Individuals stamp works really well in a nice ‘frame’.  I edged both pieces with a gold Krylon pen, then used a cuttlebug script folder to create a nice background as well as some My Minds Eye patterned paper, and some little pearls.  Pop over the blog to see the fabulous cards the rest of the Design Team have created – and we’d love to see what you come up with too!
