Happy New Year!!
Well, like most, I'm slightly glad to see the back of 2020, but for me, it's been a year where I've had more time than ever to craft, and I've certainly enjoyed that aspect.
I thought I'd share a little round-up of my favourite projects from the year.
My first favourite project is one I made only a couple of weeks ago, and it was a journal I made using the new Honeycomb Frenzy embossing folder. It was the first thing I made with this folder, and I already know this one is going to be my new favourite.
I used the Eileen Hull Wrapped Journal to create the journal itself - and before die cutting it from matboard, I covered the matboard with some of the Sizzix Surfaces Texture roll in white, then I was able to separately die cut each panel of the journal with more of the texture roll so I could then emboss each panel with the honeycomb pattern.
I added a wash of Distress Oxides in blue and green shades, then added some gold gilding wax, before adding gold embossing powder around all the edges.
The wreath on the front is a Pete Hughes die and I absolutely love the little sprigs of berries which look great if you add some Nuvo Drops to them.
Making that journal made me so happy that I decided to use the exact same techniques to create this card - this time I also added the flower from the wreath set (also coloured with Distress Oxide ink). I'm really looking forward to creating more projects with both the wreath and the honeycomb embossing folder.
Going back to the beginning of the year, another favourite project of mine was this framed bird.
I really like the mixture of textures, including a real twig from my garden, and I still have this project on display in my craft shed.
My next favourite from the year was this watercoloured card using Alpaca Pals by Tracey Hey stamps. You know I have a thing about wreaths, so this stamp set has become one of my firm favourites.
Another fave project using Tracey's gorgeous stamps was this wood plaque - also still on display in my craft shed.
The little panda is just adorable, and I particularly liked how the gold stencilling came out.
Towards the end of the year Pete Hughes launched his range of stamps. I am so happy to have so many fabulous sentiments to use on my projects in the future. He also had a brilliant set of paint splatters and effects, and this card turned out to be a favourite despite being so quick and simple.
I think the 3D embossing folders have been really amazing this year, I have done a lot of shows on Create and Craft with them, and I have to say I've made some of my favourite projects with them. I think in terms of techniques, my favourite look was to dry brush a little colour with acrylic paints, then add gold gilding wax. Here's a couple of cards with that very technique.
