Happy Halloween!

Now this is how ridiculous my crafting addiction is.  I don't send anyone a card at Halloween, it's just not something that we do in the UK, nor do I have kids, so I absolutely have no need for Halloween stamp sets and dies.  

However, I have seen so many cards and projects using this adorable set from My Favorite Things and I really wanted to own it.  I resisted on several occasions, but then caved and bought it.  I just love all the images on it, and actually, I'm sure I could use a couple of them alongside other sets for non-Halloween things.  Anyway, it just makes me happy to look at it, so maybe that's enough of an excuse lol

Simon Says Stamp - Mandy's Flowers stamp set

I'm a bit behind with my blogging so I'm trying to catch up a bit.  This is a card I made a few weeks ago, for my mother-in-law's birthday.   It's using the Mandy's Flowers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp - it was the monthly kit a couple of months back.  I really liked the mason jar stamp in particular, and thought this would make a nice birthday card.

The background stamp was also in the same monthly kit.

I created a resist background by stamping the background and heat embossing it with white embossing powder, then I added some watercolours to give a colour wash.

Home Sweet Home

I think this Sizzix Pretty Posey die sets is my current favourite.  I've made loads of Birthday cards with it, and today I needed to make a new home card for a friend, so decided to team it with this Creative Expressions sentiment stamp.

Sizzix Landscape Border and Pop up House

Today I'm sharing two die sets that are perfect for Christmas, but would also work for lots of other occasions.   

I like it when you get sets that aren't limited to Christmas.  I love making Christmas projects, but it's a bit of shame when you can only use those products for a few months of the year.

Both these dies work for new home projects, or for creating scenes.

The Landscape border set looks fabulous with some white glitter to create a Christmas scene.   I made a quick tea light holder by wrapping it around this glass jar and adding some red polkadot ribbon.

I've used it as a silhouette for my projects, but you could easily paper piece or colour the individual buildings and trees to create a background scene.

The pop up house is very cute.   For this card I coloured the door, window frame and roof with Sizzix markers.  It would look lovely with a battery tea light behind.

You can easily use it without the pop up element, and for this next project I made a little home decor frame.   This would look equally as good on a new home card.

I cut the house from different coloured card and paper pieced it together.   I hand cut a little grass border to make a little scene.   You could easily mix and match this with other die sets - especially if you have some nice tree dies.

Sizzix sneak peaks for Hochanda shows

I'm back on HOCHANDA next Monday and Tuesday with a fabulous selection of new dies.  Some are Christmassy, but actually, they can all be used for other occasions too.

Today I'm sharing this Thinlits Deer die by Sophie Guilar.  I love this one.  It looks great on it's own, cut simply from one colour, or you can paper piece it to get some great 3D pieces.  This wooden wall plaque also features a burlap bow, that I created using another new die - it's a Bigz die called Double Bow b Debi Potter.   Since it's a Bigz die, it's great for cutting fabrics (and burlap!)

Wrapped Journal with the Alpaca Pals Never Forget stamp set

This cute little elephant from the Alpaca Pals, Don't Forget stamp set is just the right size to pop onto the Sizzix Eileen Hull Wrapped Journal. 

If you saw the demo on my recent Sizzix Hochanda shows, you'll have seen how I created this faux wood effect on the journal - it's just acrylic paint but it's quite effective.  I used a dauber to add some lavender paint through a stencil in the top corner before adding the fussy-cut elephant to the bottom right corner.

First Holy Communion card

I really must invest in a good stamp or die set that covers First Holy Communion's - this is the second time I've had to just go with a simple cross made from pearls or crystals because I didn't have a suitable stamp set or die.

Luckily I had some really beautiful Swarovski crystals, so in real life this card looks quite stunning.  Since I knew the main image would be so simple, I used an embossing folder for the background then rubbed on some Prima Opal Magic Wax.  Since this card is for my nephew, and I've already got crystals on it, I didn't want to make it too shimmery so this is quite subtle but just stops it from being too plain.   The embossing folder also was quite a subtle, non-girlie kind of design - it's an old Sizzix/Stampin' Up one I've had for years.

Next card making class - 23 Sept

My next card making class in Bromsgrove is on the 23rd September.  This class will be a mixture of general occasion cards plus Christmas.

I'm going to start off with sharing some of the Christmas cards we'll be making.  I've got lots of new supplies, so I had trouble keeping the Christmas ideas to just half of the cards - the November class is going to be all Christmas, and I'm quite tempted to start now on planning for that one!

Creative Expressions - Christmas Town

I love the little houses and elements in this Christmas Town stamp set by Lisa  Horton.   I teamed it with the fabulous Shimmering Star embossing folder to create this little scene.   It's probably hard to tell from the photo, but all the snowy areas are covered in sparkly Cosmic Shimmer Diamond Frost glitter.  I also coated the embossed stars with Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Kiss in Frosty Sparkle Kiss.
