DCM - Travel

I'm a bit late blogging my card this week.  I'm on holiday in Spain and didn't get a chance to schedule my blog posts before I went.   Luckily I brought my laptop with me, so today I'm sitting in the sunshine catching up!

It's Kathy's turn to choose the challenge and she has picked a travel theme, which is very apt for me :)    I found I didn't have a huge selection of stamps that would have worked for this one, so I decided to go with this cute little camper van stamp from Hobbycraft.

I know the design is very similar to my doggie card last week, I'm kind of a bit obsessed with this layout at the moment, i just love the inked background.

DCM - Man's Best Friend

 

 

 

It's Nat's turn to choose the challenge this week at The Daring Carmakers, and she's chosen 'Man's Best Friend'.

I needed to make cards for my nieces and nephews, and had recently seen a set of cards by Dawn from Wplus9 where she used an ink blended background with a matching ink blended greeting frame.  I really liked that idea so used something similar for my cards, but instead of a greeting, I used the Concord & 9th Sophisticated Script stamp set to add their names.

Georgie really doesn't like anything too girlie so I chose this turquoise colour scheme for her card, but Lola and Ella are definitely into girlie things, so I went for pink on theirs.  For Toby I went for a nice bright lime green, and I also chose a dog that was a bit crazy looking to go with his personality!

The dog stamps are from the Paper Smooches Woofers and Tweeters stamp set.  Cute aren't they?!

 

 

Wedding Cake

It was hard to get a good photo of this card, I’ve used some WOW sparkling embossing powder, and it’s hard to capture the lovely sparkle on camera.

For the background I used the confetti stamp from the Simon Says Stamp ‘Congratulations’ stamp set, and heat embossed this with the Atlantic Seaspray sparkle embossing powder. The Congratulations is from the same set and I heat embossed this with Metallic Brass embossing powder.  The cake is from the Paper Smooches ‘Birthday Bash’ stamp set, and I coloured it with Promarkers.

Kuretake #ColourJuly Challenge, day 27 - food.

I'm back with another card to share for the #ColourJuly challenge at Kuretake.  Today's theme is 'food', so I decided to go with a pretty birthday cake.

I used the Paper Smooches Birthday Bash stamp set and coloured the cake using my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolours.  I have the largest set of paints, which includes some gorgeous metallics, and I used the gold for the cake base.  I added some Clear Wink of Stella brush pen to the flower for a bit of shimmer.

Kuretake UK #ColourJuly challenge

There’s a great month-long challenge going on at Kuretake UK.  Since I’ve been away on holiday, and was a bit manic in the run up to going away, I have unfortunately missed most of the month.  However, better late than ever, so I’m popping in with a card for today’s challenge.

Here’s the full list in case you want to join in (and it’s worth having a go because there are some fab prizes on offer).

So since today is day 26. Mess, I thought of my Paper Smooches Positive Strokes stamp set straight away, nothing is messier than ink spotches!  I used my Zig Clean Color Brush markers to colour directly onto my clear stamp before stamping onto watercolour paper.

Hopefully I’ll manage to do a few more of the challenges this week, there are some fun themes on there!

All about dad

It’s Father’s Day here in the UK this weekend, then on the 1st July it’s my dad’s 70th birthday.  He and I share our birthdays which is lovely.

So I needed to make cards for both occasions.  Cards for men are always tricky, and especially as I needed to incorporate 70 too.

I decided to go with a rainbow colour scheme and use my Lil’ Inker number dies for the numbers.  Since these are quite small I thought I’d add them to balloons so they didn’t get lost in the design.

  

The SSS confetti background is stamped across the top in rainbow colours.  The balloons are coloured with Promarkers, then added with foam pads for a bit of dimension.  The birthday word die is coloured with Wink of Stella Pens, so it’s nice and shimmery.  I hope he likes it.

For his Father’s day card, I wanted to use my new Paper Smooches Positive Strokes stamp set so went with a blue and green colour scheme.  I then popped up some Lil’ Inker stitched star dies and added a greeting in black Memento ink.  It’s quite a simple design but I’m really pleased with it.

Fiskarette's Challenge card

I’m joining in with the first Fiskarette’s challenge which requires you to make a card that incorporate two or more of these colours - pastel blue, ice grey, slate grey and orange.

I decided to use ice grey, slate grey and orange for my card:

I just got some lovely new stamps from Paper Smooches, so I was itching to use them.  The main image is from the Happy Campers stamp set, and the greeting is from the Birthday Bash set.  I coloured the fire with orange and red Wink of Stella Brush pens, so in real life it has a lovely shimmer.

Mirror Stamping using the MISTI stamping tool

I’ve put together another video tutorial, this time showing how to use the MISTI to get perfect mirror-image stamping.  

  

I used the MISTI to create a mirror-image of the crocodile so that I could have two facing each other, then I coloured the images and cut them out to create this card.   I used the Simon Says Stamp stitched Slopes and Hills die set to create the little grassy hill, then matted that onto some kraft card.

DCM – Inspiration photo

We always start the first Friday of the month with a particular type of challenge each year.  Last year we chose a colour combo palette each month.  This year we are going with an inspiration photo.  You can take inspiration from the photo in many ways – you can go with the colour scheme, the elements in the picture, or with a picture like this one chosen by Kathy, you could use the layout as a sketch. 

 

I really liked the warm colour scheme so that was my starting point, then since stitching is one of my favourite things I decided to also pick up on that, and the hearts for my card.

The heart die is from the ‘Bundle of Stitched Shapes’ die set from Simon Says Stamp.  I cut them from white card then coloured them with Promarkers to get the exact colour scheme I was after.  The stitched lines on the kraft card are created using a die from Paper Smooches – they have a lovely set called ‘dots and dashes’ which features 4 different options, and the greeting stamp is also from Paper Smooches.

More class samples

I hope you’ve all recovered from the New Year celebrations!   I’m kind of looking forward to getting back to normal and not feeling I can eat anything I like – my diet has most definitely gone out of the window the last week or so, and I’m ready now to get back to it.

I’m just popping in to share some more of the cards we’ll be making in my February class:

This is one of my favourites, I think these Paper Smooches stamps are just so cute.  Andy laughed when I showed him this one and asked if he could buy it off me for Valentine’s Day (I’m quite a bit taller than him).

This next card features a lovely Avery Elle stamp set – I really love the font on the greetings stamps in this set and the flowers are just so versatile.

Next is a simple Birthday card, with different colours I think this rabbit image would work quite well for a masculine card too.

And finally, a Valentine’s card (since the class is the week before Valentine’s Day).  I went with a grey and red colour scheme for this so it would work well for a man.  It’s a simple design, but quite striking I think.
